Tracking down a streaming service to buy, rent, download, or view the Steve Antin-directed movie via subscription can be difficult, so we here at Moviefone want to do right by you. Also finally Cher might get the cash to make the Mae West musical for which she is now ideal. The dance numbers are thoroughly enjoyable albeit badly edited and filmed too close, like most of the film. Presiding over the craziness within is Tess, a grande dame who also performs occasionally and who could only, under these circumstances, be played by Cher. With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager Stanley Tucci and gender-bending host Alan Cumming , Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage.
He was seven years old. Ali vows to perform there and, with the help of a savvy stage manager and a gender-bending host, she makes the leap from bar to stage, helping restore the club's former glory. I actually think the 'lets save the nightclub' storyline is a wink to other cliché musicals and knows it. Ali vows to perform there and, with the help of a savvy stage manager and a gender-bending host, she makes the leap from bar to stage, helping restore the club's former glory. She lands a job as a cocktail waitress at the Burlesque Lounge, a once-majestic theater that houses an inspired musical revue led by Tess Cher , the proprietor.
I love love this movie. Stanley Tucci revives his gay assistant from The Devil Wears Prada, Alan Cumming lurks about in an undefined role that might well have been filmed months after everybody else, and Kristen Bell enjoys a few wicked-witch moments as Ali's main rival. This film just wants to be some of all those above. I'm not talking about a minute or two but one after another of full length ads and the menu is disabled. I wish they would do a remake where Ali takes over ownership, but has some sort of issue. In fact, it's more cornball than trashy. Love Stanley, Love Kristen, Love Cam and Eric too.
Tess, a retired dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the aging theater alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. Jam-packed with visually stunning musical numbers and an all-star cast featuring Eric Dane, Kristen Bell and Stanley Tucci. Ali hits most of the clichés of the genre: defying Tess's skepticism by proving her mettle during an impromptu stage number; flirting with the nice-guy bartender Cam Gigandet, of Twilight whose home she shares for a while, in a purely platonic way, of course, just until she gets her feet on the ground; and keeping a wary eye on the high roller Eric Dane, of Grey's Anatomy who wants to possess her, because, you see, he takes whatever he likes. Meanwhile, the life of Ali, a small-town girl from Iowa, is about to change dramatically. Situated in a regal old theater that's still dazzling despite having fallen into disrepair, The Burlesque Lounge is the kind of club where legends are born.
Ali Christina Aguilera , a small-town gal with a great voice, leaves a troubled life behind and follows her dreams to Los Angeles. Written by Goofs You can hear feedback when Ali is onstage and Nikki sabotages the mixing console. The movie is worth watching just to hear Christina Aquilar sing Tough Love. Despite that, I still love it. The songs good and the costumes offer the old razzle dazzle as well they could and actually do. The vibe of this glitzy concoction is more Flashdance than Showgirls, despite prerelease predictions that the film would be a campfest of epic proportions. Not every movie has to be powerful or meaningful.
Cam Gigandet would be James Cagney. Well the costumes, the choreography, the music and most of all, two powerful voices, Chistina's and Cher's. With the Lounge's troupe members becoming increasingly distracted by personal problems and a threat coming from a wealthy businessman's quest to buy the spot from Tess, the good fortune seems to have abandoned the club altogether. Stanley would have to be there. She lands a job as a cocktail waitress at the Burlesque Lounge, a once-majestic theater that houses an inspired musical revue led by Tess Cher , the proprietor.
Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer Julianne Hough , finds an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer Kristen Bell , and garners the affection of Jack Cam Gigandet , a bartender and fellow musician. Christina Aguelira would be played by Joan Blondell who she actually resembles. A couple of the script lines are head-scratching, but forgiveable. They would all have to be in it. Aguliera needs a place to stay so the cute bartender offers his place even though he has a fiance. .
Entering the scene is a young leather-lunged hopeful from Iowa named Ali, played by Christina Aguilera in her movie-acting debut. So, yeah, I give it 5 out 5. Writer-director Steve Antin has no embarrassment about putting any of this across, which may be why it all feels weirdly innocent, if relentlessly silly. And did we mention that Tess is facing foreclosure on the club in a month's time?
