In 1967, the D-series trucks received 383 2-barrel engines as a standard option. Inward-facing jump seats were available, providing room for five passengers. Fuel Regular Regular Premium The 1969 model year brought a more reliable manifold heat control valve, using replaceable bushings for the valve shaft and a replaceable stainless steel internal seal to shield the bushings. To spin the camshaft, we chose a Comp double roller timing set. In most jurisdictions, the year is dictated by the year of the truck's chassis regardless of the body which has been bolted to it. He did opt for nondescript low back bucket seats with a padded center console.
The 318 was engineered for the smaller Dodges and Plymouths on a 108- to 112-inch wheelbase and later the larger full-size Chrysler line of cars. The 1964-1967 273 had mechanical lifters. Styling cues, such as the scalloped hood and rounded fenderwells, were similar to the rounded, smooth look of the 1971. The 273 was limited to the A and B bodies, with the 318 engine in the C Body, which was new to Plymouth at the time. There is a deft red stripe that separates the two down the unique Dodge body line.
The 360 was upgraded in the following year — rising to 190 hp and 292 lb-ft of torque. There were numerous changes to the block, including movement of the core holes and higher-diameter main journals. Also kept was the narrow Utiline bed that dated back to the 1940s; this was dropped in 1985. Thankfully, you can find a grand selection of Dodge engines and other essential vehicle parts in the vast inventory on eBay. The 360 replaced the 383 as the optional engine in the 1971 Dodge Polara and Plymouth Fury, and the base engine in the 1971 Chrysler Newport. Slant-Six and Small block truck engines were different from car versions as they generally had tougher bearings and forged cranks as well as modified compression for higher torque. The 440 is definitely a versatile engine, having been installed in Mopar passenger vehicles from muscle cars to station wagons, in trucks, and even in boats.
They will also fit 340s and 360s as well. This was no doubt a simple change, but the previous six years had still been using the weaker lever type handle that was a carry over from the fifties. You will then be able to replace the crank seal and maybe add a wear sleeve to the crank if the surface is worn. The next major change was the launch of the 340 cubic inch V8 in the 1968 cars; with bigger valves and other changes, it was clearly meant to be the performance leader of the Chrysler small-block V8s.
